This website is a culmination of my work in EDCP 551 - Mathematics Education: Current Issues in the Winter of 2023. The links, resources, and information contained herein is focused on integrating social justice principles into the teaching and learning of mathematics. The exploration of these principles in mathematics education can empower students to critically engage with concepts and promote equity and justice through math.
In Data Feminism, D'Ignazio & Klein (2020) identify a method of challenging power as "Collect, Analyze, Empower, Teach". Ideally, the resources contained in this website will assist teachers in collecting a wide range of data about a number of social justice issues, in order to lead to the analysis within their own classroom contexts which allows students to be empowered by knowledge, and to teach others about these issues.
Acknowledgements: Cynthia Nicol - for your guidance and feedback throughout the EDCP 551 course, and your tireless commitment to ensuring your students have every opportunity to be successful. Tamara Shand & Diane Wiens - for your wonderful feedback on my ideas during meetings.
