Malcolm Knoll is a Grade 6 teacher in Alberta who is committed to teaching and learning mathematics through real-world experience. Malcolm has ten years of elementary teaching and leading experience in Calgary schools. His B.Ed. degree specialized in Elementary Social Studies and he is currently completing a Masters of Mathematics Education at the University of British Columbia.
Malcolm's passion for social studies combined with his graduate level work in mathematics education is the foundation for his dedication to a socially conscious approach to math education. Malcolm recognizes the interconnectedness of these subjects, and strives to create an environment where his students understand mathematics within a broad societal context.
Under the umbrella of teaching mathematics for social justice, Malcolm explored the issue of housing inequality and injustice in Canada. This study led to the development of this website. The goal is to help teachers access resources to engage students in mathematics around real-world issues.
